Maria T. Cantú Hexsel graduated cum laude from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1992, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies. She received her J.D. from Texas Tech University in 1995 and joined the Lubbock firm of Salinas & Mendez, P.C. where she practiced in the areas of family and criminal law, probate and personal injury litigation. In 1997, Maria moved to Austin and joined the Tort Litigation Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Texas. As an Assistant Attorney General, Maria represented state agencies and employees in all aspects of civil litigation and defended state medical schools in medical malpractice lawsuits. In 1999, Maria joined the Austin firm of Ewbank & Byrom, P.C. (currently Ewbank & Harris, P.C.) where she represented physicians and physician groups in medical malpractice litigation at the trial and appellate levels. Additionally, she represented businesses, school districts, and governmental entities in areas of civil litigation including employment, premise liability, general negligence, and contracts. GERMER invited Maria to join the firm in March 2004. Maria is a member of the Austin Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, Hispanic Bar Association of Austin, Travis County Women Lawyers Association, and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.  Maria is fluent in Spanish and loves life in Austin.  She enjoys outdoor activities and live music with her husband Ricardo and their two young daughters.
